Imagination At Work

In terms of global warming prevention, General Electric is taking some serious action. It’s Ecomagination campaign promotes its environmentally friendly products and expresses its global concern for population growth, uncontrolled urbanization, climate change and drinking water supply.

GE makes everything from jet engines to refrigerators that use less energy to operate. These products have helped companies around the world to build wind farms in the ocean, develop clean-diesel powered locomotives and set a precident for decreased nitrogen oxide emissions. They have also helped homeowners decrease their damaging impact. GE even offers a credit card with Earth Rewards. One percent of all purchases made with the card are collected each month and are eventually used to buy carbon offsets on Earch Day. (Buying carbon offsets just means they’re paying someone else to plant trees or capture methane.)

If I were a homeowner I would definitely use GE’s washer and dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, cooking products, and as many of the other products I could. If I though credit cards were even relatively safe for me, that’s the one I’d use. I will take GE’s light bulbs though, which produce the same amount of light, yet use less energy.

Can you imagine what would happen if everyone used as many of GE’s products as they could? Well, that would cause all kinds of economic problems, so let me re-phrase: Can you imagine what would happen if everyone used as many energy saving products as they could?
